Physical event of Gamescom 2020 officially canceled

Gamescom: Opening Night live with Geoff Keighley, however, is streamed digitally.

After a ban on the German government for physical events until the end of August due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the physical event was officially canceled for Gamescom 2020. Organizer Koelnmesse and Game - The association of the German gaming industry has also announced this on Twitter. It was also confirmed that a digital event that was already in progress would still take place.

You can already look forward to how we will celebrate the best games worldwide at the end of August with you and the GamesCom worldwide, even if these will only be digital and not on site this time. Because one thing is certain: this year is and remains the Gamescom The Heart of Gaming!. Further details will be announced in the coming weeks with refunds for paid tickets also on the way.

It is positive that Geoff Keighley's Geoff Koehley is completely digital and live on 24th August's Opening Night live. You can expect a number of announcements and important revelations as last year. Given the fact that next-generation consoles (seemingly still) stand on the horizon, it should be an interesting show.

The Gamescom 2020 is only the youngest in a long series of shifts and cancellations due to the pandemic. The GDC 2020 was postponed on August, while the physical event of the E3 2020 was canceled without an online event to take place. Publishers such as Microsoft and Ubisoft will have their own digital presentations, but concrete plans need to be announced. Further information can be obtained in the meantime.
